University of Maine Student Research Symposium Judge

Ron Brown was a Judge at the University of Maine’s Student Research Symposium held in Bangor on April 17, 2018.  The symposium featured oral, poster, and demonstration presentations of undergraduate and graduate student research projects in all areas of study from the arts; to business; to the natural, physical, and social sciences; to medical, to engineering and information sciences; to education.  Ron was a judge in the business and engineering areas.  He was also responsible for the IEEE booth at the symposium where the IEEE was a symposium sponsor.

Maine Space Grant Consortium Planning

On February 28 and March 1, 2018, Ron Brown participated in a planning project sponsored by the Maine Space Grant Consortium.  The session positively evaluated the benefits of pursuing the development a space port in Maine.

Oxford Elementary School Career Fair

For the fifth consecutive year on November 13, 2017, Ron Brown represented the engineering profession at the Oxford (Maine) Elementary School’s Aspire Higher Career Fair.  He met with student’s from each grade, K-6th, talking with them about what engineers do and how their work benefits society.

IEEE Award

Ron Brown, IEEE Maine Section Chair, was recently recognized by the IEEE Region 1 Board of Governors with the Enhancement of the IEEE or Engineering Profession’s Image with the Public Award for his significant contributions to creating a positive IEEE-Public relationship in Maine.  This award was made because for several years he has actively worked with K-12 and university educators to stimulate STEM education and with others to stimulate economic development in Maine.

IEEE Region 1 Board of Governors Meeting

As IEEE Maine Section Chair, on June 9th and 10th Ron Brown participated as a voting member in the eight state IEEE Region 1 Board of Governors meeting.  The achievement of the meeting was the planning of needed actions to continue to develop the IEEE as the world’s largest professional organization.  For the Maine Section we found some new ideas to continue the development of our section for the benefit of our membership and the State of Maine.

MTUG Scholarships Awarded

At the 30th annual MTUG IT Summit and Tradeshow, Ron Brown presented MTUG Information Technology Scholarships to 8 graduates of Maine high schools who are 3rd or 4th year students at a University of Maine System University and majoring in an IT oriented field.  These scholarships were sponsored and funded by MTUG, FairPoint Communications, GWI, Lincolnville Communications, Norway Savings Bank, Maine Fiber Company, Systems Engineering, and Tyler Technologies, Inc.
